What to Expect

This week at These Old Cookbooks, we are serving up delicious meals that Grandma would approve.

Do you ever have those moments when thinking about what to serve for dinner will actually put you over the edge?  Between work, kids, after school activities or whatever you have on your plate, meal planning can seem daunting.  One of the strategies we use is to think about each night of the week as a “theme”.  This helps point us in the right direction each night of the week.  For example, here is one of my more common weekly meal schedules, and some of our most common meals for those nights.

  • Saturday: Grilling night
    • Steak, pork steak, chicken breasts
  • Sunday: Brunch
    • Zucchini Quiche, Loaded Breakfast Casserole, Baked Oatmeal
  • Monday: Casserole
    • Mom’s Ham and Cheesy Potato Casserole, Cheesy Broccoli Rice Casserole, Salmon Casserole
  • Tuesday: Taco Tuesday
    • Taco Salad, Crock Pot Taco Soup, Sheet Pan Fajitas
  • Wednesday: Chicken Night
    • Chicken Stir fry, Chicken Crescent Bake, Chicken Salad
  • Thursday: Soup it is!
    • Tuscan White Bean Soup, Broccoli Cheese Soup
  • Friday: Fish
    • Salmon patties, baked tilapia, tuna casserole

By thinking about each night of the week a theme, it narrows down the meal options making it more obtainable.  You try it!
