Crock Pot French Style Green Beans
Growing up, my Mom always served French-Style green beans. You know the kind, right? They are thin slivers of green beans that come straight from the can.
Mom jazzed them up for us, of course with a little butter, maybe a little seasoning. All I know is that I loved when Mom made them, and I still have a special place in my heart for those skinny, French Style Green Beans.
I decided to create a crock pot recipe using French style green beans that would be great for large gatherings, parties or the holidays.
Slow Cooker Green Beans With Potatoes
I love volunteering to bring green beans to the holidays.
Why, you might ask?
That’s because they are so easy to make in the slow cooker. With very little effort, I have my side dish ready to go, and I don’t even break a sweat.
Plus, Crock Pot Green Beans are so versatile to make:
- Use ham or bacon.
- Add onions and/ or garlic.
- For added flavor, chicken broth, chicken bouillon, or Better than Bouillon work great.
- French-Style or Cut Green Beans both can be used.
- Add more flavor with brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, or bacon grease.

- Regular cut-green beans (canned) can be used instead of French-Style, if desired.
- Beef broth or vegetable broth could be used instead of chicken broth.
- For extra flavor, add a scoop or two of Better than Chicken Bouillon and/or bacon grease.
- Substitute fried bacon bits for ham, if desired.
- Can’t find new potatoes, cut regular potatoes into bite-sized pieces instead.
- Jarred, minced garlic works great. I put in approximately a Tablespoon total.

Crockpot Green Beans and Ham
Ham is the perfect accompaniment to green beans. The saltiness of the ham helps to flavor the naturally bland flavor of the green beans. Make this an old fashioned green bean recipe by adding new potatoes too.
What type of ham should you add to green beans?
Use ham steak cut into cubes, leftover diced holiday ham, a chunk of ham from the deli (cubed or diced), pre-diced ham from the refrigerated section, or whatever type of ham you can get your hands on.
