Tips for Pork Steak in the Oven

  • Season generously with seasoned salt (or regular salt) and black pepper. Add in other spices to your tastes such as paprika, onion powder or garlic powder.
  • Brown both sides of pork steak in hot vegetable oil or olive oil in a skillet on the stove. This adds more flavor and seals in juices.
  • Place the browned pork steak in the bottom of the pan so that it bastes in the gravy.
  • Top with peeled, sliced potatoes for a full meal. Carrots would be another great addition.
  • Make a flavorful gravy to pour over top for the meat to cook in. Some easy sauce ideas include any flavor of cream soup, condensed French Onion soup, tomato soup, etc. Fresh mushrooms or onions can be added to the gravy.
  • Cover tightly with foil before baking.

Juicy Pork Steaks in Oven

Why Are My Pork Steaks Tough?

There’s many different reasons your pork steak might be tough.

First off, you might be over-cooking your pork steak. Often times, pork steaks are cut very thin which means they will cook very quickly on the grill or barbecue.

It could also be that you are using the incorrect method of cooking. Baked pork steak is a great way to keep your pork steak moist and tender. Basting in a gravy or liquid is key, and I recommend covering the dish in aluminum foil to keep the juices in the pan. Another great cooking method for a moist pork steak is slow cooking.
