How to Make Chocolate Bark
Step by Step Instructions
- Line a large baking sheet pan with parchment paper.
- Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.
- Upwrap chocolate bars and arrange on the prepared sheet pan so that they are touching. I like to put dark chocolate in one area and milk chocolate in another.
- Sprinkle with white chocolate chips.
- Place in the oven for 5 minutes.
- Remove from oven, and spread melted chocolate with a knife or icing spreader. It’s ok if the bars are melted but the chips are not melted. This will leave chunks of chocolate in the bark.
- Decorate the top as desired with optional ingredients. Press the toppings gently into the melted chocolate.
- Refrigerate for an hour or until the chocolate bark has hardened.
- Break into pieces. If it’s too hard to break, gently use a rolling pin or meat mallet to help break it.
Storage Instructions
Place into smaller, decorative bags or an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator until ready to eat.

Christmas Bark Recipe FAQs
- If you would rather do this in the microwave instead of the oven, then melt each chocolate individually in a large microwave-safe bowl, then pour onto prepared baking sheet. Don’t stir the different chocolates together; instead make layers of the chocolates. Then press in the edible decorations. Follow the rest of the instructions.
- Gently press the toppings into the melted chocolate to ensure they stay intact during the breaking process.
- This makes a festive gift for friends, family, teachers, postal workers, etc.
Recipe Variations
- Use white chocolate for the bottom, and top with crushed candy canes for Peppermint Bark.
- Melt white chocolate bars and sprinkle dark chocolate chips for a zebra stiped candy.
Does bark candy need to be refrigerated?
While it is not necessary to refrigerate bark candy, it is recommended to do so to help it set and prolong its shelf life. Refrigerating the candy will also keep it from melting or becoming too soft at room temperature, especially if you live in a warm climate. However, if you prefer a softer and more gooey texture, you can store it at room temperature in an airtight container.
