Ground Beef Stromboli Sandwich Recipe
This easiest Stromboli recipe using group beef comes from our dear friend, Jackie. She included this recipe in a cookbook she gave me for my wedding.
The cookbook includes many of her family’s favorite recipes, and the recipe cards are handwritten and organized by meal type. I treasure this gift and highly recommend that you create a recipe book like this as a gift for someone in your life.
Jackie even noted that these warm sandwiches are great for the field, meaning they are a farmer-approved harvest meal. We are always searching for new recipes to fix during the busy seasons – spring and fall – on the farm.
Stromboli on Hoagie Recipe
What makes this easy Stromboli recipe different is that it is served on a hoagie bun instead of having to mess with dough. It doesn’t get much easier than that.
The secret to making this particular hamburger Stromboli so delicious is that the hoagie bun is coated with a garlic butter before filling it with the meat sauce which I am calling Stromboli Joes.
This means these sandwiches are more like a garlic bread stuffed with a beefy filling, and topped with gooey, melty cheese.
The Stromboli Joes filling is made up of hamburger cooked with ketchup and tomato sauce and spices to make it saucy like a sloppy joe.

Hamburger Stromboli Recipe with Oregano
You should be able to find most of the ingredients for this Ground Beef Stromboli Sandwich recipe already in your pantry or refrigerator.
We typically use ground beef but you could easily use pork sausage or use half of each. The sausage would definitely add more flavor to the sandwiches.
The seasonings to flavor the Stromboli joes are paprika, ground oregano and fennel seed, which is completely optional. I don’t keep fennel seed on hand, so I omit it typically.
The ground oregano gives the hamburger Stromboli a flavor similar to your favorite pizza sauce.

Notes About Ground Beef Stromboli Sandwich Recipe
- Be sure to start with softened butter. Mix the butter with the garlic powder by hand or use a mixer to cream it together. Save any extra and use it on steak or make your own garlic bread.

- Dried minced onion works great if you don’t have a fresh onion on hand.
- For the grated Parmesan cheese, go ahead and use the kind in the green container.
- Fennel seed can be omitted, if desired.
- Provolone cheese would be a great substitute for mozzarella cheese. Shredded works too instead of sliced, if needed.
