Spanish Hot Dog Sauce Recipe

Looking for an easy hotdog sauce recipe?  You’re in luck. I’ve got a simple Coney sauce recipe that is sure to please.

This chili sauce for hot dogs is actually a copycat recipe from B & K Root Beer Stand in Logansport, IN.  My girl, Maryann, got this recipe from a friend and co-worker, and Maryann made these for my family when we visited over Labor Day.

Let me tell you. Husbands and kids alike love chili dogs. Top your dogs with a heap of Spanish sauce, and then sprinkle on some shredded cheddar cheese. Yummy!

This brings me to another good point. I had no idea that Coney sauce is also called Spanish sauce.  Maryann and her mother-in-law, Beth, taught me this.  Coney sauce, Spanish sauce and chili sauce are all interchangeable names for a hot dog topped with a delicious tomato-based or ketchup-based sauce.

Sometimes chili sauce contains beans and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s truly just a matter of preference. If you’re looking for a bean-based Coney Island sauce, check that out here.
