What to Expect

This week at These Old Cookbooks, we are serving up delicious meals that Grandma would approve!

We are starting the week ahead by preparing a turkey breast in the crock pot.  This is a great meal for the weekend; set it and forget it.  Then, use the leftovers later for a second meal.  We’ve planned to make Turkey Crescents using diced leftover turkey breast.  Typically, we use canned chicken but this moist turkey is the perfect substitution.

Here’s a helpful hint to make sure your turkey breast doesn’t get dried out.  Use a digital thermometer to set the desired temperature to 165 degrees F.  The thermometer will notify you when it hits the temperature. No overcooking your meat!

Another favorite strategy that we use through out the year is to make huge pot of soup over the weekend.  Then, take the leftovers for lunch or eat it again later as a second meal.  I love how the flavors of soup get better as it sits in the refrigerator.  That’s exactly what happens to our Low Calorie Cabbage Soup. It’s a bonus that it’s good for your waistline too!
