I personally like to use the crock pot to cook a ham because the flavors of the glaze cook into the ham the entire cooking time. In this case, the cherry flavor is loaded into every bite of ham, not just on the outer edges. It also frees up oven space on a busy holiday such as Thanksgiving, Christmas or Easter.

Cherry Crock Pot Ham Recipe Ingredients

  • Fully Cooked Ham (I prefer spiral cut ham, sliced)
  • Cherry Pie Filling
  • Brown Sugar
  • Cherry Coke or Cherry Cola

This cherry glazed slow cooker ham is simple to make. How simple? The hardest part is cutting the packaging off the the ham. After that, if you can open a can and stir a couple ingredients together, then you are good to proceed.

Ham Glazes are typically sweet to balance out the saltiness of a ham. This Cherry Glazed Crock Pot Ham gets its sweet notes from a combination of canned cherry pie filling and brown sugar.

The other secret ingredient in this double cherry slow cooker ham is Cherry Coke or Cherry Cola. Colas are great to cook hams in because the acidity helps keep the ham tender. Just say no to dry, tough ham!

Crockpot Ham with Coke

No offense to any turkey-lovers out there, but I tend to lean towards ham at any holiday dinner. Actually, crock pot ham recipes are so easy to make that I tend to keep a couple spiral hams in the freezer at all times, especially when Aldi marks them down for practically nothing after the holiday.

I’ll toss the spiral ham in the slow cooker for dinner, and then I tackle the leftover ham. First, I’ll feed the family ham sandwiches for a couple meals, then I cube up the ham and toss it into a casserole such as Mom’s Cheesy Ham and Potatoes.  If there’s any left, I then usually make some type of soup such as Cheddar Chowder. And let’s not forget the ham bone!  I keep that for a big pot of Ham and Beans in which I use the Instant Pot because it’s so dang easy to make.

Let’s recap.  One ham = 6+ meals

What can I make with cherry pie filling besides pie?

Think sweet or think savory because cherry pie filling can be used both ways.  Whereas salty ham is perfectly complimented by a cherry pie filling glaze, almonds also compliment the cherry pie filling in delectable Cherry Almond Dump Cake.
