Oh baby, I love this easy refried dip.  Serve this cold refried bean dip in a 13 x 9 inch baking dish. This Mexican dip features three layers.

1st Layer: Refried Beans

2nd Layer: Sour Cream, Mayonnaise, Taco Seasoning Mixture

3rd Layer: Mexican Toppings, like sliced green onions, tomatoes, olives (optional) and shredded cheese

Serve this 3 layer Bean Dip with tortilla chips for the perfect appetizer or snack.  In our family, we actually eat this as a stand-alone meals. No judgement, please.

What ingredients do I need for refried bean dip with sour cream?

  • Refried Beans, regular or low fat
  • Sour Cream, regular or low fat
  • Mayonnaise, regular or low fat
  • Taco Seasoning Mix
  • Green Onions, sliced
  • Tomatoes, diced
  • Olives, sliced (optional)
  • Shredded Cheese

Cold Refried Bean Dip

I love eating this during the hot summer months. No need to heat up your kitchen as this layered bean dip can come straight from the refrigerator to the table.

It’s also the perfect party food.  Make this your addition to any barn party, pitch in, church potluck or birthday party, and definitely be prepared to share the recipe when asked.

The original recipe comes from a church cook book from the Quailtown Christian Church. I can imagine it was served amongst all the church ladies back in the day.

How to Make 3 Layer Bean Dip:

  1. Layer refried beans in the bottom of a 13 x 9 inch baking dish.
  2. Combine sour cream and mayonnaise; stir in dry taco seasoning mix. Spread over top refried beans.
  3. Sprinkle green onions, diced tomatoes and sliced olives (optional) over top.
  4. Top with shredded cheese. Lightly press into the sour cream layer.
  5. Refrigerate.
  6. Serve with tortilla chips.

  • To make this lower in fat, use fat free refried beans, low fat sour cream and low fat mayonnaise.

First off, you need to serve something to dip into refried bean dip.  Tortilla chips of any variety are the first choice.  Trying to be healthy? Dip some fresh vegetables such as carrots, celery or bell pepper slices into the bean dip.

What entrée should you serve with bean dip?  I love serving this with any Mexican themed meal such as tacos, burritos, taco pie, taco salad, Cheesy Mexican Chicken or Chicken Ole Casserole.

The perfect ending to a meal that includes Layered Bean Dip would be a drink.  My choice is a drink with little kick such as Jalapeno Pineapple Limeade  or Jalapeno Cape Codder!

Ingredients

  • 32 ounces refried beans
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 ounce package taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup sliced green onions
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup black olives (optional)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  • In a 13 x 9 inch baking dish, spread refried beans to cover the bottom.
  • Mix together sour cream, mayonnaise and taco mix.
  • Spread sour cream mixture over refried beans.
  • Sprinkle sliced green onions, diced tomatoes, and sliced olives over top the sour cream.
  • Top with shredded cheddar cheese. Lightly press on cheese to press into sour cream.
