Quick Cinnamon Rolls
While we were growing up, every once in a while our mom would buy a package of cinnamon rolls for us to bake on Sunday morning before church. There is just something about popping open one of those rolls of dough. We loved it!
This recipe reminds us of those days but with a twist. One Sunday morning, Barbara was looking for a quick recipe for breakfast and she was able to throw these together in a flash. This recipe is slightly modified from Taste of Home: Most Requested Recipes cookbook and it only has 5 ingredients!
These crescent cinnamon rolls hit the spot and her family loved them too. But, who doesn’t love crescent rolls? Many of us tend to keep a roll of these in the fridge as a staple. They even make rolls of crescent roll dough WITHOUT the individual scored rolls, making this recipe even easier if you can find those in your local grocery store.

What can I use as a substitute for crescent roll dough?
If you have a recipe calling for crescent roll dough, try substituting refrigerated pizza dough for the crescent roll dough. The pizza dough in the tubes from the refrigerated section is very similar to crescent rolls, maybe not as flaky but still yummy.
Or, use the breadstick dough from the refrigerated tubes instead of crescent rolls. Just be sure the breadsticks aren’t pre-seasoned. Nobody wants an Italian-flavored dessert!
Notes About Quick Cinnamon Rolls with Crescent Rolls
- Try using crescent sheets from the refrigerated section instead of rolls, if you want to save even more time. This prevents you from having to pinch or roll the seams.
- You may want to put a little flour down on the table before rolling the seams to prevent it from sticking to the table.
- Substitute brown sugar for granulated, if desired.
- Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the cinnamon sugar for Nut Rolls, around 1/4 cup nuts.
- The powdered sugar glaze is optional.
- I like these even better when they’ve cooled down to room temperature. The crescent dough combined with the cinnamon sugar center and powdered sugar makes for an extra special texture.
