Diving into our Grandma’s beloved wooden recipe box is one of our favorite ways to find inspiration for recipes. We love to share them not only here on our blog but with our family and friends. Barbara found this pumpkin bar recipe in our beloved recipe box. Once she made it, we knew we had to share it with the world!

How to Make Praline Pumpkin Pie Bars:

Instructions:

  1. First Layer: Mix flour, quick oats, brown sugar and butter until crumbly; press into a 13 x 9 inch baking dish and bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees F.
  2. Second Layer: Combine pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, salt, ginger (or nutmeg), cinnamon and cloves; pour over hot crust, and bake for an additional 20 minutes.
  3. Third Layer: Mix chopped nuts, brown sugar and butter; sprinkle over hot filling. Bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes or until set.

Notes About Praline Pumpkin Pie Squares:

  • Be sure to use canned pumpkin not canned pumpkin pie filling. There is a big difference.
  • To lighten up the recipe, try fat free evaporated milk.
  • Swap ground ginger with ground nutmeg if desired.
  • Chopped pecans or chopped walnuts can be used for the praline topping.

Ingredients

Bottom Layer

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup quick cooking oats
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Middle Layer

  • 15 ounces canned pumpkin
  • 12 ounces evaporated milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger or nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Top Layer

  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons butter, softened

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Using your hands (or mixer), combine flour, oats, brown sugar, and butter until crumbly; press into the bottom of a 13x9 inch baking dish. Bake for 15 mins.
  • Combine and beat well the following: pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, salt, nutmeg (or ginger), cinnamon, and cloves. Pour over hot crust, and return to oven for an additional 20 minutes.
  • With your hands, combine nuts, brown sugar and softened butter. Sprinkle over filling and return to the oven for an additional 15 to 20 minutes or until set.
  • Cool in pan, and cut into bars or squares. Serve with whipped cream or Cool Whip.
