What to Expect

This week at These Old Cookbooks, we are serving up delicious meals that Grandma would approve!

What’s your plan for getting dinner on the table this week?  Having a plan is key!  This week, we are using the Instant Pot and Crock Pot to help us along.  We particularly like to use the Instant Pot on the weekend to make a big pot of soup.  Our Potato Soup is warm and hearty, and there’s plenty of leftovers to eat.  The best part is that soup gets better as it sits in the refrigerator because all the flavors infuse even more.

We are also using the electric pressure cooker to make taco beef used for tacos, nachos, burritos, taco pizza, rice bowls or whatever is your favorite Tuesday night taco delight.

If you don’t own an Instant Pot of electric pressure cooker, you can easily convert these to the crock pot or oven.

Later on this week, we have a toss and go Chicken Corn Chowder recipe planned for the crock pot.  When you get home add some half and half and you are ready to eat.  It tastes great with crackers or crushed corn chips on top.

Weekly Meal Plan, Week 26

Saturday: Pressure Cooker Potato Soup and Maryann’s Sweet Cornbread

This Pressure Cooker Potato Soup has all the flavor of making it on the stovetop but takes a fraction of the time. Using your InstantPot, this soup can be on the table in no time!

Sunday: We love baking bread on Sundays for breakfast.

Try Mom’s Perfect Zucchini Bread and Cake Mix Surprise Cinnamon Loaves.

Classic Zucchini Bread is just what the names implies. Perfect, moist, cinnamon-flavor, the best ever zucchini bread.

Monday: Crock Pot Apple Pork Chops and Roasted Summer Vegetables

Summer Roasted Vegetables takes your favorite garden bounty and makes the perfect side dish.  Roasting vegetables in olive oil, salt and pepper brings out incredible flavor, and the addition of Parmesan cheese at the end takes it over the top. You will soon be adding this to your list of favorite side dishes.

Tuesday: Pressure Cooker Taco Beef and Sweet Corn Casserole

Taking a whole beef roast and turning it into a family-friendly dinner in no time is what this Electric Pressure Cooker Taco Beef recipe is all about.

Wednesday: Classic Spinach Salad with Bacon and Eggs

This classic spinach salad pairs perfectly with a simple homemade vinaigrette dressing of red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, olive oil, salt and pepper.  This is a salad that will have your whole family going back for seconds.

We tend to eat this as a meal, but if you are looking for more protein, try All American Steaks from Beyer Beware.

Thursday: Crock Pot Chicken Corn Chowder

This Crock Pot Chicken Corn Chowder is made using ingredients that most of us on hand in our pantry and is a dish your entire family will love.

Friday: Classic Sloppy Joes and Old Fashioned Pea Salad.

These Classic Sloppy Joes are made with just a few simple ingredients and can be served as a sandwich or used as toppings on a baked potato.

Use the leftovers to make Sloppy Joe Cups.  Or, put the leftover meat over baked potatoes. Yum!

Sloppy Joe Cups have all the flavor of the classic sandwich in an easier to eat package - a biscuit - and topped with yummy cheese.

You survived the week! For a quick dessert, try this easy apple cake called Baked Apple Surprise.

Baked Apple Surprise is an old fashioned apple cake recipe.  The ingredients are easy, and it's baked in a pie pan making it a quick dessert or breakfast to get on the table.  Plus, your kitchen will have the aroma of fall with hints of apple and cinnamon.
