What to Expect
This week at These Old Cookbooks, we are serving up delicious meals that Grandma would approve. All of these recipes have simple ingredients (see our grocery list at the bottom of this post) and are easy to follow.
With it being summertime, we are really focusing on dishes that use vegetables that are in season like zucchini and yellow squash. They tend to be very economical this time of year.
One strategy we are using this week is to use make up a batch of cornbread as a side and then use the leftovers in our Enchilada Meatloaf. Now, that is smart cooking!
There are a few items that you can buy in bulk to save yourself some money this week. Buy a large bag of onions, whichever are the cheapest (yellow, white, sweet, etc). You’ll also need quite a bit of shredded cheddar cheese this week, so buy the biggest bag you can find. Oftentimes, I can find a larger bag at Aldi that is cheaper price per unit.
See the grocery list below (we didn’t include the ingredients from recipes NOT on our site). You most likely won’t need everything on that list. We are betting that you have many of these ingredients already in your refrigerator or pantry!

Tuesday: Crockpot Enchilada Meatloaf, Cheesy Frito Salad

Wednesday: Classic Coney Island Sauce, Served over Hot Dogs, Old Fashioned Pea Salad
Thursday: 12-Minute Old Fashioned Ham Steak, Sweet and Sour Green Beans
