- In a bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, ketchup, vegetable oil and finely minced onion.
- Add chicken wings to crock pot insert, and pour sauce over top. Stir so that all wings are coated in the honey glaze.
- Bake on low for approximately 3 hours or until the chicken wings have an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
- Optional step: Place cooked honey chicken wings onto a large sheet pan that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Brush with honey soy sauce from the crock pot insert.
- Broil for a few minutes or until the skin lightly crisps up. Watch closely to prevent burning.
Notes About Honey Soy Chicken Wings:
- I prefer to use fresh chicken wings or thawed chicken wings that have been previously frozen.
- Be sure to drain off excess liquid from the thawing process before adding the raw chicken wings to the crock pot insert.
- The broiling step at the end is optional, but highly recommended. Broiling will crisp up the skin of these soy chicken wings.
- How do you know if your chicken wings are cooked through? Use a digital thermometer to check the internal temperature. Once it reaches 165 degrees F, the chicken wings are safe to consume.
- Use 1 teaspoon of dried minced onion instead of the fresh onion, if desired.
- I recommend using low sodium soy sauce.
- To warm up leftover chicken wings, place in an air fryer at 400 degrees F for several minutes.
I can’t find chicken wings at the store. What can I use instead of chicken wings?
A good substitute for chicken wings are chicken drumettes (mini chicken legs) or chicken drumsticks (chicken legs). Chicken legs are typically bigger than chicken wings and drumettes, so be sure to take into account the cooking time might be longer.
