Hamburger Pork and Bean Skillet Recipe
I love me a skillet meal. Sorry Mom for the horrible grammar, but it’s true.
Skillet meals are the jam to my biscuits.
For one, the entire meal is prepared in one skillet. This means there’s less cleanup after the meal.
Secondly, skillet meals are typically fast. And that’s exactly the mode I’m in around dinner time.
The third characteristic I’m looking for is minimal ingredients. My eyes start to gloss over if there’s more than 5 ingredients. It’s like my brain can’t process any more. My hard drive is full.
Pork and Bean Casserole fits all of these criteria.
- One Pan Plan
- Quick

Sloppy Joes with Beans
My husband walked into the kitchen when I was making this yummy hamburger bean casserole, and he said it looks and smells like a Sloppy Joe recipe with beans.
Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.
That’s exactly what this hamburger bean skillet reminds me of. The slightly sweet sauce that smothers the hamburger and beans has a sloppy joe flavor. And then to top it off, it’s eaten as an open faced sandwich over buttered bread.
Truth be told, this is how I eat my sloppy joes too.

Linking up Weekend Potluck.
My mom’s version is hamburger, pork n beans, ketchup and mustard. One of my favorite meals but I forget about making it.
Sounds good!
We grew up with this only we used a cup of barbeque sauce (Open Pit) instead of ketchup and no water. My version is I add black pepper, chopped onion and a chopped green pepper to the ground beef when cooking, I add a whole 18 ounce bottle of barbeque sauce, (Open Pit Hickory Flavor) or regular flavor if you can’t find Hickory. I use a 16 ounce can of Bushes Baked Beans, it adds more flavor than plain pork and beans and a 1/4 cup brown sugar or add to your taste. Let it simmer down until it becomes a thicker consistency. It freezes well too for a later day!
We grew up eating this but my mom threw in elbow macaroni. How would that change the recipe? Any suggestions?
We haven’t tried it with elbow macaroni. You probably could add it but you might need more water.
I’ve been eating this recipe since I was 13 years old (72) now. We always called them Beanburgers
I add garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce to the meat. I love them on a slice of wheat bread with onions. My aunt brought the recipe home from a church revival where they were served on hamburger buns with dill pickles after the service was over. Fond memories….
