We took the classic version of the tater tot casserole and tweaked it for our family. It just so happens that we love Frisco Melts. Our kids go nuts over this cheesy tater tot casserole (without soup, without sour cream and without milk).
What is a Frisco Melt?
It’s a hamburger from Steak and Shake that has a delicious sweet sauce. The sauce is made with a combination of French and Thousand Island Dressing, ketchup and a couple cheeses. It is yummy! We often eat Frisco Hamburger Helper and Stuffed Frisco Sticks.

A Tater Tot Casserole Without Soup Recipe
This version of tater tot hot dish has a base of ground beef and Frisco sauce which uses ketchup, French dressing and Thousand Island dressing.
The other great thing about it is that it is a tater tot casserole without soup. Typically, the casserole used a can of cream soup in it. So if you are adverse to this product or you don’t happen to have any in the cabinet, this recipe is a great substitution.

- Ketchup
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Thousand Island Dressing
- French Dressing
- Velveeta Cheese
- Swiss Cheese
- Frozen Tater Tots (do not thaw)
How to Make Tater Tot Casserole Without Soup
Step by Step Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Brown ground beef in a large skillet; season with salt and pepper. Drain excess grease if desired.
- Add French Dressing, Thousand Island Dressing, Ketchup, Worcestershire Sauce and Velveeta directly to the browned ground beef. Stir over low heat until the cheese is melted.
- Pour ground beef mixture into a 8 x 8 casserole dish or 9 x 9 inch baking dish that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray.
- Sprinkle Swiss cheese over meat layer; top with frozen tater tots.
- Bake in preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until the tots are golden brown.
- Season the hot tots with salt and pepper if desired.
Storage Instructions
Let leftover tater tot casserole cool. Transfer to an airtight container and store leftovers in the fridge for up to a week.

- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/4 cup French Dressing
- 1/4 cup Ketchup
- 1/2 cup Thousand Island Dressing
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup Velveeta cheese
- 2 cups Swiss cheese, shredded
- 1 pound frozen tater tots
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray an 8×8 inch or 9×9 inch pan with nonstick cooking spray.
- Brown ground beef over medium high heat; season with salt and pepper. Drain excess grease if desired.
- Directly to the beef, add French Dressing, ketchup, Thousand Island dressing, Worcestershire sauce, and Velveeta. Stir over low heat until cheese melts, approximately 3-4 minutes.
- Spread meat mixture into prepared baking dish. Sprinkle with shredded Swiss cheese.
- Top casserole with frozen tater tots.
