Crock Pot Tropical Pork Roast Recipe

Slow Cooker Pork Roast is a recent favorite meal at my house.  Growing up the daughter of a pig farmer, I remember eating lots and lots of pork chops, bacon, ham and pork steaks, but not necessarily pork roast.

Since discovering how easy it is to throw a pork roast in the Crock Pot, I’ve become quite the pork roast master (in my own opinion). By adding a few simple ingredients, your pork roast can take on different personalities. Scroll down to the bottom of this post for some more slow cooker pork roast ideas.

This particular Tropical Pork Roast is Hawaiian inspired with a sweet sauce.  I love serving it over rice because it’s not only easy (and cheap), but the rice absorbs all the flavors of the tropical sauce. It would also be just as tasty served a pulled pork sandwich.

What is a pork roast?

This can actually be a bit confusing since there’s a couple cuts of pork that are sometimes called a roast.  In general, a roast is a large cut of meat that is intended for roasting.

When I think of a pork roast, I am referring to a pork shoulder roast which is sometimes called a pork butt.  This cut is typically a tougher cut of meat with quite a bit of fat, making it ideal for slow cooking or Crock Pot cooking.

Another cut of pork that is also called a pork roast is a pork tenderloin.  This cut is the same meat as a pork chop except the chop bone is removed and the meat is left in a larger chunk.  Pork loin roasts are more tender to begin with and do well in the oven.

In the end either of these cuts can be used for this recipe and other Crock Pot Pork Roast recipes, but I recommend using a pork shoulder roast if possible.
