Strawberry Chiffon Squares

Fruit desserts are not always my go to.  Shocking, right?  Because I have a killer Apple Crisp, Peach Batter CakeBlackberry Cobbler and countless other old fashioned fruit desserts in my repertoire.

Typically I’m a chocolate, peanut butter, butterscotch type of girl. With that being said, I may be a convert after discovering this Strawberry Chiffon Dessert.

It comes from my Amish Cook Book that I found in a flea market in Western Kentucky.

Strawberry Chiffon Pie

This recipe is truly a no bake Strawberry Chiffon Pie except it’s not made in a pie crust.  That’s because it makes a larger quantity than one pie.  You could really make two Strawberry Chiffon Pies out of this recipe.

Instead of pressing the graham cracker crust into a 11 x 7 inch baking dish, press the crust into two pie shells. Then divide the filling into two equal parts and pour into the graham cracker pie crusts.

No Bake Strawberry Chiffon Dessert

I love old fashioned no bake desserts.  That’s because my kitchen is hotter than Hades in the summer. Old farmhouse equals steamy farm kitchen.

Making a no bake desserts keeps the kitchen cooler. Plus, a cold icebox strawberry chiffon cake is quite refreshing on a summer day.

I made this treat for our Momma’s birthday which is dead square in the heat of summer.  Mom and Dad gave this No Bake Strawberry Chiffon Dessert four thumbs up, and I have to agree.

While we say this is a summer dessert, it really can be enjoyed all year long as it calls for frozen strawberries. We love using frozen fruits year round but especially in the off seasons when access to some of our favorite fruits are limited.

Strawberry Chiffon Squares Ingredient List

At first glance, I started sweating when I found this recipe because it has more ingredients than my typical limit.  But all the ingredients looked so yummy, that I decided to give it a go. I am happy to report that this recipe is easy and quick to make.

Butter

Graham Crackers, crushed

Strawberry Jello

Water, boiling

Sweetened Condensed Milk

Frozen Strawberries, thawed (keep the juices)

Miniature Marshmallows

Whipping Cream, whipped

How to Make Strawberry Chiffon with Jello:

  1. Combine melted butter and crushed graham crackers; press into the bottom of a 11 x 7 inch baking dish or 2 pie pans. Chill in freezer until ready to fill.
  2. Whip heavy whipping cream and set aside.
  3. Add boiling water to strawberry Jello mix; stir until dissolved.
  4. Stir in sweetened condensed milk and thawed strawberries.
  5. Fold in whipped cream and marshmallows.
  6. Pour over top graham cracker crust.
  7. Refrigerate until set, approximately 2 – 3 hours.

Notes About Strawberry Chiffon with Condensed Milk:

  • The original recipe for strawberry chiffon squares calls for a 11 x 7 inch baking dish.  If you do not have one, use a 13 x 9 inch baking dish or (2) pie pans for strawberry chiffon pie.
  • 1 1/2 cups of crushed graham crackers equals one small package from a box of standard sized graham crackers.
  • Be sure to use sweetened condensed milk not evaporated milk. It is not the same and will not work.
  • Use frozen, sliced strawberries or use whole, frozen strawberries and be sure to slice them after they thaw. Do not discard the juices!
  • Heavy whipping cream works best; just whip it up in a blender. I like to put my bowl and beater into the refrigerator for a little bit so it’s cold before I make homemade whipped cream.  In a pinch, Cool Whip will work too.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups crushed graham crackers
