Loaded German Chocolate Brownies

Why are these called loaded German Chocolate Brownies?

That’s because there is not only a layer of the most amazing homemade German chocolate icing over top the brownies, but some of that same icing is swirled though the brownie mix before baking.

This results in a ooey gooey brownie center with bits of nuts and coconut.

German Chocolate Brownies From Box

This recipe is a perfect mix of short cut and homemade, convenience and old fashioned. In this case, the brownie base is the short cut and convenient part while the icing is old fashioned and homemade.

The German chocolate brownies base is made with a box mix. I recommend using your favorite brand, or whatever is cheapest. I tend to keep a brownie mix from Aldi in my pantry at all times for cases like this.

You can follow the directions as it reads on the back of the box; however, instead of using 2 whole eggs, I just use the 3 egg whites that are leftover from the homemade German Chocolate Icing recipe.

Grandma’s German Chocolate Icing

My Granny’s German Chocolate Icing is so dag-gone amazing that I have an entire blog post dedicated to it. Click here to find that post.

I’ve been searching for ways to eat German Chocolate Icing. I hate to admit it, but it is so good that I typically just eat it on a spoon directly inserted into my mouth.

Or, of course, there is the traditional way to eat it on a chocolate cake. I even sometimes use it as a topping for ice cream, especially our Grandma’s Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream. Better yet, make some homemade hot fudge sauce to go over the ice cream and German chocolate icing toppings.

But now that I’ve discovered these decadent German chocolate brownies, I may never go back to any other way.
