The ingredients are simple.

Layer one: chocolate cake mix, butter, and eggs

Layer two: cream cheese, powdered sugar, eggs and cocoa powder

I guess you could say that these should really be called Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cakes since the bottom layer has a devil’s food cake crust, and the top layer is a cocoa-laced cream cheese mixture. Let’s be honest, you can never have too much chocolate.

How to Make Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cakes:

  1. Mix dry cake mix and melted butter; add eggs and beat until smooth.
  2. Press the chocolate mix into the bottom of a 13 x 9 inch greased baking dish.
  3. For the second layer, mix softened cream cheese, eggs, powdered sugar and cocoa powder until smooth and lump free.
  4. Pour over the bottom layer.
  5. Bake in a preheated 350 degree F oven for 40 minutes or until the center is set but not completely firm.
