Glorified Rice is an old fashioned dessert salad consisting of white rice, mini marshmallows, pineapple, maraschino cherries and Cool Whip. Served cold, this vintage recipe is perfect for summer.
Just when I thought I had made every type of old fashioned cold dessert salad recipe on the face of the Earth, my friend Janie surprised me with her family recipe.
Old Fashioned Glorified Rice
I’ve added almost everything you can think of to create a Cool Whip Salad, including pretzels, Jell-O, marshmallows, Oreos, canned pie filling, Red Hot candy, cottage cheese, canned fruit, etc., yet I had never made one with cooked rice in it before.
I was flipping through Janie’s family cookbook when I stumbled upon the name Glorified Rice. It immediately grabbed my attention for the uniqueness of the name. I’ve seen rice pudding recipes, but never had I seen this recipe before.
Glorified Rice is essentially a cold, dessert salad, similar to an ambrosia except it has cooked, cooled rice in it.
