Fresh Peach Cobbler Recipe

My lovely neighbors John and Laura have a peach tree that has been rather inactive for as long as they can remember, and then low and behold, it produced beautiful peaches this year, much to their surprise.

A few days ago, Laura texted saying that I was welcome to come peach picking. Well, I jumped on that chance immediately, or actually, I volunteered my middle kiddo and my nephew to pick them for me.

When fresh peaches are in season, there’s nothing like it. I love to eat them whole with the juice running down my chin because that’s a sign of an awesome peach.

Katie Bug (my middle) went to town and brought me a whole bag of large, white peaches. So I did what I do best, and I made an old fashioned peach cobbler.

Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler Ingredient List

I just so happened to discover a great peach cobbler recipe in my Caterin’ to Charlestown Cook Book a couple weeks ago.  I actually converted the recipe to a Blackberry Cobbler, and I completely fell in love with the basic cobbler recipe. Since the blackberry version turned out so great, I knew I had to go back and make the original peach version too.

  • Taste the peaches before adding sugar.  If they are tart, you may need to add more.
  • Try to keep the sweetened peaches away from the sides of the pan; instead pour or drop them near the center of the pan.  The edges will burn if the peaches and the sugar are touching the edge.
