- 1 stick butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 pound ground beef (or pork sausage)
- 1 Tablespoon chopped onion
- 8 ounces tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 Tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon fennel seed (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground oregano
- 1 package Hoagie Buns
- Sliced Mozzarella Cheese
Combine softened butter and garlic powd until smooth; set aside.
Brown ground beef and onions; drain excess grease if needed.
To the beef, add tomato sauce, ketchup, Parmesan cheese, paprika, fennel seed, and ground oregano. Let simmer for a few minutes to thicken up.
Spread both sides of hoagie buns with garlic butter.
Fill with Stromboli meat mixture.
Top with sliced cheese.
Wrap each sandwich with foil. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes.
Enjoy straight from the wrapper, or serve as desired.
- Be sure to start with softened butter. Mix the butter with the garlic powder by hand or use a mixer to cream it together. Save any extra and use it on steak or make your own garlic bread.
- Ground beef or ground pork sausage can be used. Ground pork sausage will have more spice and flavor.
- Dried minced onion works great if needed instead of fresh, diced onion.
- For the grated Parmesan cheese, go ahead and use the cheap kind in the green container.
- Fennel seed can be omitted, if desired.
- Provolone cheese would be a great substitute for mozzarella cheese. Shredded works too instead of sliced, if needed.
- These are perfect for taking to the fields or for eating on the go.
