Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb. ground pork sausage
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup white bread cubed

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees F; spray an 8 x 8 inch glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Brown and drain ground sausage.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, dry mustard and salt.
  • Stir in cheese, bread cubes and sausage.

Notes

  • This makes an 8 x 8 inch pan, but can easily be doubled to feed a crowd.  See instructions and ingredient amounts for 13 x 9 inch pan in this post. 
  • Mild or spicy pork sausage can be used.
  • This breakfast casserole with bread is a great way to use up leftover buns. 
  • There's two options for making this recipe ahead.
    1. Prepare breakfast casserole with bread and cook per instructions. Let cool, and refrigerate overnight.  Heat in a 350 degree F oven until warm.
    2. Make sausage egg casserole but do not bake.  Cover uncooked casserole and store in the refrigerator overnight. Bake according to instructions.  Baking time may be longer since the casserole is cold going into the oven.
