Layer One
- 2 eggs
- 1 box white cake mix
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Layer Two
- 8 ounces softened cream cheese
- 2 eggs
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar Confectioner’s sugar
Mix eggs, cake mix and melted butter until smooth.
Stir in chocolate chips by hand.
Spread into a greased 13 x 9 inch baking dish.
For the second layer, cream softened cream cheese, eggs and powdered sugar until smooth.
Pour over the first layer in the baking dish.
Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 35 minutes or until golden brown and the center is just set.
- Yellow cake mix or white cake mix can be used for this gooey butter dessert.
- Substitute mini chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips for the semi-sweet , if desired.
- Mix in the the chocolate chips by hand.
- Be sure the cream cheese is softened to prevent a lumpy top layer.
- Gooey butter cake recipe is done cooking when the top is golden brown and the center is set but slightly jiggly.
