Ingredients

  • 2 pounds kale, stemmed and coarsely chopped
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 Tablespoons sesame oil, toasted
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 3 teaspoons minced garlic
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 Tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Add the prepared kale into a large skillet with the water; cover and cook over medium/low heat until kale is wilted and tender, approximately 4-5 minutes. Remove the kale from the pan. (Drain excess water if needed.)

  • In the dried skillet, heat sesame oil and olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic, and cook for 10 seconds, stirring constantly. Add the wilted kale.

  • Cook the kale, stirring constantly until cooked through, approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Season generously with salt and pepper. Top with toasted sesame seeds.

Notes

  • Remove the stems from the kale by folding it along the spine, and ripping the leaves easily away.  Discard the stems.
  • After wilting the kale in step one, drain well in a colander if the kale has excess moisture. 
  • Onions would be a nice addition to this sauteed kale recipe.
  • While toasted sesame seeds are optional, I highly recommend that you don't skip.  They add the most amazing flavor and texture to this sesame kale recipe.
  • How to toast sesame seeds? Heat sesame seeds in a small dry skillet over medium heat. Watch closely and stir often until the seeds begin to get brown and fragrant. These will burn quickly, so do not walk away.
