Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 10.5 ounces condensed French onion soup
  • 3 Tablespoons flour
  • 1/3 cup water
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 package Hawaiian Sweet Rolls, 12 count
  • 2 cups shredded Mozzarella or Swiss cheese
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 Tablespoon dried minced onion
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard

Instructions

  • Brown ground beef in a skillet; drain excess grease if needed.
  • In a small bowl, whisk flour and water until smooth; add to ground beef with condensed French onion soup. Heat until thick, season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 13 x 9 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray OR line with foil.
  • Take the package of Hawaiian rolls, and cut the entire sheet in half creating a rectangular bottom bun and top bun (do not separate into individual slider buns yet).

  • Layer bottom sheet of buns in the prepared baking dish. Top with prepared French Onion Sloppy Joes, spreading the ground beef mixture from edge to edge.

  • In a microwavable bowl, melt butter. Add dried minced onion, Worcestershire sauce, salt and mustard and stir until combined. Pour over the top of the sliders, spreading it to cover all buns and allowing it to drip over the sides.

  • Let the buns sit for 10 minutes to absorb the butter mixture.
  • Cover tightly with foil; bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

Notes

  • It's much easier to cut these super bowl sliders into individual sliders after baking than to construct each slider individually from the start.
  • To prevent the French onion sliders from sticking to the bottom of the pan after baking, spray the pan with nonstick cooking spray or line the pan with aluminum foil.
  • My family prefers shredded Mozzarella cheese but Swiss or Gruyere would be amazing.
  • Be sure to cover the sandwiches tightly with foil before baking to prevent the tops from burning.
  • If you use salted butter for the sauce, you may need to omit the salt in the sauce.
