Ingredients

  • 4 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 2.5 oz jar or package dried beef (see notes about using refrigerated dried beef)
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 3 cups milk whole or 2% works best
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

  • In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.

  • Barbara's favorite dried beef comes from Rihm Foods. It's a specialty item they make around the holidays and she stocks up then!
  • What can you substitite for dried beef in a jar? Use the refrigerated dried beef packets (Buddig dried beef). Here's a helpful hint. It's much more economical.  For this recipe, use two of the beef packets from the refrigerator section.  
  • This dried beef gravy serves two- three people so make double or triple if needed.
