Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 - 2 onions, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • splash Tabasco sauce (optional)
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Brown and crumble ground beef in a dry hot skillet until lightly browned and bits are stuck to the bottom of the pan.

  • Reduce heat; add onions and cook for a few minutes until onions are softened. Season with salt and black pepper.

Notes

  • To lighten these BBQ sloppy joes up, use ground turkey instead of ground beef.
  • Dried minced onion can be used for regular onion. 
  • Brown sugar could be used for white sugar, if needed.
  • Tabasco is completely optional. Use more or less or leave it out completely.
  • If you don't like any spice at all, take down the black pepper to 1/4 teaspoon.
