A French dip sandwich is just a fancy name for a roast beef sandwich. It’s easy to turn your roast beef into an au jus by simply cooking it in the crock pot. Enjoy it au jus with melted Swiss cheese (or provolone cheese) and horseradish.

Crock Pot French Dip Au Jus

Barbara found this French dip recipe in the Pot O’Gold cookbook from our Great-Aunt Gertie’s church out in Imogene, Iowa, and it did not disappoint. Adding the cheese and putting the sandwiches back under the broiler takes them from a good sandwich to a delicious sandwich.

You do have to do a bit of prep work before it is ready for the crockpot but cooking the onions in the butter and mixing together the seasonings is totally worth it.

Do you need a tool to easily shred beef? Buy a pair of kitchen shears or put your cooked meat in your kitchen aid with the paddle attachment.  After a little bit, you’ll have perfectly shredded meat.
