Crock Pot Pork Roast with Gravy Recipe

Growing up, I don’t remember eating many pork roasts; instead, Mom typically made beef roast like our Beef Roast French Dip or this Crock Pot Beef Roast and Gravy. My kids, on the other hand, are obsessed with pork – bacon, pork sausage, bacon, pork chops, bacon, pork steak, and bacon.  So naturally, this slow cooker pork roast was a hit with my family.

This Slow Cooker Pork Roast with Gravy is a winner in my eyes because it uses canned soups (no packets)- simple pantry ingredients – with little to no prep needed.  Pork roast tends to have a nice natural fat content, and when slow cooked, it mixes with the soups to create its own gravy.  I recommend serving this over mashed potatoes.

How to Make a Tender Pork Roast

The goal is for the meat to be fork-tender.  When you try to remove the roast from the crock pot, it should fall apart into large pieces.  This is when you know it’s gonna be delish.

To get a tender pork roast, a 3-5 pound pork roast will take 5 to 6 hours on high or 8-10 hours on low in the slow cooker. Be sure to season the pork generously with salt and pepper.  Dredging in flour and browning in oil before slow cooking will also add another layer of flavor, but isn’t necessary to end up with a delicious entrée.

  1. Please specify what kind of pork roast to use. Is it pork butt or pork loin or pork shoulder? This recipe sounds pretty good and easy. I would like to try asap. I also have pork chunks for carnitas in the freezer. I wonder if this would work?

    1. Sorry about that! We fixed it in the post. We suggest pork butt or pork shoulder over pork loin. You want something with a bit more fat than a pork loin roast usually has. Pork chunks should work, might just want to think about cooking time since it’s not one large piece of meat. Thanks so much for asking so that we could add that information.

      1. Sounds very good can you use pork gravy and Lipton onion soup mix instead of cream of mushroom soup?

  2. I would have to say this was the best pork roast I’ve ever eaten. I took some to my brother who has ALS and he said the pork is very yummy. So tender and juicy. My husband agrees, too. Can’t wait to make it again. Thanks for the wonderful and EASY recipe.

  3. I absolutely love this! I wanted to add as well if you don’t have the condensed onion soup that you could use a packet of onion soup dip mix and add water. Turns out just as good.

  4. I have at least a 8 lb pork butt, how long do you suggest I cook it in the slow cooker? I am guessing that I would double the soups used.

    1. You should still be looking at 8-10 hours on low in the crock pot for a bigger roast – you want it to be fork tender so you could always allow for an extra hour of cooking time and if it’s done, just turn it to warm. You may not need to double the soups…you’ll have more juice from the pork as it cooks!

    1. You could use another type of cream soup – celery or chicken. A can of condensed French Onion soup could work too.

      1. This is EXCELLENT!! The best pork roast I have ever had! My husband told me not to ever lose this recipe. I did brown the roast well as suggested. Thank you for posting this recipe.

  5. Hi Looks yummy 😋I Was going to use Lipton onion soup mix & cream of mushroom soup? Because that’s what I have on hand So just wondering if you put any other liquid in there like beef stock or beef broth Thanks

    1. We don’t put any other liquids when we use the two cans of soup. If you are going to the dry onion soup mix, you might add a half a soup can of water or so when you mix it and the cream of mushroom soup together.

  6. Megan, I would like to thank you for the attention you give to comments. It’s unusual to see replies from past posts. Making a pork roast tomorrow using your recipe. Thanks so much

      1. Megan, this is a lovely recipe. I use it for beef rump roast as well.
I used to make this recipe years ago and started back again. I add a box of sauted mushrooms, lipton onion soup packet, can of mushroom soup, can of French onion soup. Back when I was younger they had cream of celery soup, but I didn’t care for it. If I’m making a pork roast I throw in a green bell pepper.
I have noticed that the Mom and Pop grocery stores have some excellent prices on their meats as compared to the commercially owned chains. Within the last 2 months at 2 different stores I have found sirloin bone in pork roasts for 99 cents a lb!!! Beef rump roasts at 2.39 a lb. I was amazed and very happy. I know one has an ad they post. I haven’t checked out the other store yet to see if it does. Thank you so much for all you do!

  7. Not sure if it’ll come out right or good but going to dredge in flour and brown on all sides, then set aside and in same pan add onions, celery, and carrots, let sauté for a min then deglaze the pan and add into slow cooker, then add in the browned meat, I’m also going to add small halved red potatoes, then add the soup mixes and hope everything cooks alright and tastes good.

    1. That sounds yummy! I might try adding those other ingredients as well! I plan on making this recipe tomorrow!

  8. How was it? The browning definitely helps to keep it tender. I used to make this recipe years ago and started back again. I add a box of sauted mushrooms, lipton onion soup packet, can of mushroom soup, can of French onion soup. Back when I was younger they had cream of celery soup, but I didn’t care for it.
I hope it came out good.

  9. I am not able to find the condensed French onion soup, just the regular. Will the regular can work also? I am. making this for my moms birthday tomorrow. She will be 86.
    Your recipe looks yummy.

    1. It should work though it might be more liquid as regular soup cans are larger than condensed soup cans and the soup is usually looser (is that a word?).

    2. Excellent and definitely keeping the recipe. I browned the pork without using flour and added mushrooms. I’ve never used condensed French Onion soup before for cooking and can’t wait to try other recipes. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe.

  10. This is going to be our dinner tonight what a beautiful recipe for a rainy May Day! I don’t have to fuss over it much!
